To utilize cutting-edge technology principles in the field of artificial intelligence for designing compound traditional Chinese medicine from scratch, here we propose a new research strategy. Then applying this new strategy, we have developed a new computational tool named CSFA, which can be used in three steps. First, about 100 active TCM compounds are expected to be discovered via compound screening on cell models, from a TCM library with more than 1000 compounds. Second, 4~5 medicinal herbs were selected from a database of over 500 medical herbs to form enormous TCM combinations. Thus, the new AI tool CSFA is used to assess every TCM combination, following the principle of “covering as many active ingredients as possible”. Meanwhile, the content and efficacy of active ingredients will also be considered by the new AI-tool CSFA. Third, top-ranking designed TCM combinations with highest scores are to be validated on cellular and mice models. Finally, a new TCM formula is obtained via AI-tool design and experimental validation.
